So you don't have yourself a formal education? That's ok, we have a test that's got you covered mostly-black-or-immigrant-people! You have ten minutes to finish up 30 questions (So about 20 seconds per question.) and failing even ONE will disqualify you from being able to vote.

Oh, and one of the questions can never be answered correctly if we don't want it to.

Test can be found here: [link]

Question 20 is the one, it has two possible meanings, to spell the word 'forwards' backwards, or to spell the word 'backwards' forwards. Putting both answers counts as failing. Saying the question is unclear counts as failing, and just one answer can be failed by your (white) examination marker no matter what it is.

Even I couldn't do this in thirty minutes. How is it a literary test?!

Because it has words in it.

Don't worry, if you're the right race literate, they'll be lenient and let you in.

Considering the Japanese version at the time was a kick in the pants, it was an improvement.

I disagree. The japanese version was, if anything, more honest. This one gives you a false sense of hope.

Black people? Hope? Surely not?

Oh, but they are able to have hope, which makes failure all the more soul-crushing.

Bah, hope wouldn't become a problem until two decades later, then once they got it they wanted all sorts of other things.

Hope isn't the problem. Having it destroyed is.
