...apple juice!

(See what I did there, I continued on from the previous deviation! I'm so cunning!) Nothing like fresh, organic iced apple juice. I drink about three liters a day, just to keep up with production. (It only lasts a day too, then it starts down the road to cider.) Many people say you need pulp in a juice, but not for this kind of apple. (It tastes floury.) You can tell from all the red that there's lots of antioxidants in it and BOY is it delicious.

Everyone should make their own apple juice at least once.

How does one make apple juice, anyway?

You've got to crush the apples. Traditionally through some sort of solid sieve but I use a juicer which is far easier. Apples are like grapes in that respect.

I imagine these apples must be very juicy by nature and/or you use a powerful appliance to crush them into juice. In any case it seems a great deal of crushing force is required.

Not so much crushing as centrifuge; they're less juicy than say oranges, if you bite into most apples you don't get juice on your chin, kinda like bananas really. You need force and\or cooking to break the soft flesh down and release all that moisture.

Bananas yes, banana juice, not so much. Especially when it starts to go off. (Which it does, quick sharp.) It's like saying you like icecream therefore you'd like icecream soup.

Red Gravenstein. A rather old variety. You used to be able to get them in the stores, but no more.

There are so many kinds of apples - we used to have a Russian Yellow Transparent in our yard, but it died this year and we couldn't find a replacement. I still might look for one.

They can be hard to find, nobody but hipsters is interested in the classics, and they don't want to grow them.

Pity. There's nothing like an apple tree in spring.

Wow...is the red from the peel or something? I've never gotten a shade like that from apples.

These apples have a red peel and also a reddish core. I juice my apples with peel for extra nutrients.

It's ok, but I prefer the fresh juice. I'm a sugar lass.
